SUGAR POLICY -- NO CANDY, SODA, GUM POLICY

In an effort to align our school pledge with actions, making healthy choices is important to us.  Horicon School has a no candy, soda, gum policy. No candy or soda is allowed at school or on the school buses.  Some snack ideas for school lunches are apples, popcorn, raisins, cookies, and dried fruit.  Milk, juice, and water are all good drinks to send or they can be purchased at school. Please no glass containers. Please also note that we are a nut-free campus.

Takis and Hot Cheetos are banned by the school as snack items as they have very high rates of sodium, are loaded with saturated fats, trans-fats, yeast extract, monosodium glutamate (MSG), sodium, and artificial chemical additives, flavors, and colors.  These chemical additives rob these products of their nutritional value and turn them into ā€œnon-foodsā€ and have led to gastritis which involves the irritation, inflammation or erosion of the stomach's lining.
